Jamie Dana, M.C.,
Jamie Dana, M.C., is a trained mental health counselor and psycho-educational evaluator. She has a long standing enthusiasm for education and literacy, and worked as a tutor throughout her high school and college degrees. She began at the ALLC as an intern while obtaining her Master of Counseling degree from Arizona State University and developed a strong passion for assessment and diagnosis of learning disabilities, with emphasis in written language and reading.
Ilce Alexander, B.A.
Ilce Alexander, B.A., is ALLC’s Director of ECH Developmental & Literacy Screenings. She is a Magna cum Laude graduate of Arizona State University with specialties in English as a Second Language and Elementary Education. She is also a trained bilingual ECH Developmental screener and a trained Prevent Blindness America vision screener.
Ms. Alexander is a known bilingual parent trainer presenting workshops through out the Valley of the Sun. Her bilingual educator trainings have been requested at the Arizona Department of Education Early Chidhood Institute, Murphy School District Head Start, and at over 10 preschool partnerships, including the John C. Lincoln Hospital’s Learning Center. In addition, she held the roles of Early Childhood Specialist for the Arizona Self-Study (preschool accreditation) Project and Lead Specialist for the Association for Supportive Kith & Kin ECH parent training program.
Julie Lukas, M.S., CCC-A, F-AAA
Julie Lukas, M.S., CCC-A, F-AAA, is a certified, state licensed clinical audiologist and is Director of Audiology for the Arizona Literacy and Learning Center (ALLC). She joined the Early Childhood Developmental Screening Team at Scottish Rite (ALLC) in 1988 and served as Director of the Screening Program from 2002-2006.
Ms. Lukas earned her Master of Science Degree in Communicative Disorders from San Francisco State University. She was awarded a traineeship at the San Francisco Veterans Administration Hospital prior to her graduation. She was also awarded the Graduate Student Award for her research in auditory processing assessment, which resulted in a published chapter in Central Auditory Assessment: The SSW Test (D. Arnst and J. Katz, editors).
Ms. Lukas has 29 years of diagnostic audiology experience in the following clinical settings: California Ear Institute, Central Arizona Child Evaluation Center, Barrow Neurological Institute, North Phoenix Ear, Nose, and Throat Clinic, Audiology Associates and the ALLC. Ms. Lukas has also been a clinical supervisor and academic instructor for the Arizona State University Speech and Hearing Department.
Ms. Lukas is a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and the Educational Audiology Association. She is also a fellow in the American Academy of Audiology. She specializes in Auditory Processing Assessment and Treatment.
Danielle Bourgault
Danielle Bourgault has been a school psychologist for the last five years. Through assessment, diagnosis, intervention, consultation, and counseling, Ms. Bourgault has worked with hundreds of students with learning disabilities in the area of reading. She has conferred with the families of these students, as well as educational support staff and private agencies to design appropriate intervention plans for reading success. Ms. Bourgault has attended professional workshops on dyslexia, brain development, phonemic awareness and multi-sensory reading programs. Most recently, Ms. Bourgault’s primary interests include dyslexia, early literacy and brain imaging.
Linda Barr
Linda Barr presently teaches in the position of reading specialist. She has taught in special education and in the regular education classroom for 18 years. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Special Education. Her Master’s degree is in the area of elementary education with a focus in reading. She currently holds an Arizona Department of Education teaching certificate in special education K-8 and Elementary Education with endorsements in both Early Childhood and Reading Specialist K-12. Mrs. Barr has worked with neuropsychologists at Barrows Neurological Institute as the lead educator working with traumatic brain injured students. She attended the DIBELS Leadership Institute, taught as a summer trainer for a school publishing company and as a staff development instructor for Gilbert Public Schools. She currently serves as a board member of the Arizona branch of the International Dyslexia Association. Mrs. Barr has also been trained in several scientific, research based reading programs to provide effective interventions to the children who struggle with reading in the regular classroom. Currently her interests are focused in the area of reading difficulty, specifically students with dyslexia.
Nicole Engel
Nicole Engel is the friendly person on the other end of the phone as she fields questions for the correct specialist. She assists staff with special projects, front desk duties, and other-related functions in the office. Nicole enjoys the opportunity to help callers and visitors get answers to their questions. Nicole has been with Arizona Literacy and Learning Center since Nov. 2004. She moved to Phoenix from Prescott, AZ to work with us.
